THE CARE MODEL
The Cabin crew Alertness and Rest Evaluation (CARE) model has been built using the underlying fatigue model that is built into SAFE. The CARE plug-in overrides the pilot workload algorithms in SAFE and replaces them with algorithms that describe the workload and rest periods taken by cabin crew.
The rest accommodation has been expanded to include no rest at all, economy seat and the jump seat that is sometimes made available for cabin crew use. In the CARE model that is integrated with SAFE, all rest facilities from bunks to jump seat to no rest can be selected to assess the fatigue for both pilots and cabin crew.
In much the same approach to developing the SAFE model, the CARE model has been developed for FRMSc by Mr Mick Spencer, the chief architect and developer of the SAFE model, using data provided by cabin crew travelling short and long haul routes. This data has been modelled to create CARE which has been integrated seamlessly into the SAFE hosting platform.
